This coming winter, Jane Street is excited to host our annual IN FOCUS program at our office in New York City. Over the course of four days, students will learn more about what we do and how we do it through programming and mock trading exercises, classroom lectures, and other interactive activities.
Selected students will arrive in New York City on the afternoon of Monday, January 6th and will depart on the morning of Saturday, January 11th. Jane Street will cover all travel expenses to and from New York City, including housing and meals.
IN FOCUS features three separate program tracks students can apply for:
Trading — students will learn about mathematical and financial topics such as probability, market structure, and arbitrage through short lectures, group games, and mock trading sessions.
Software engineering — students will learn OCaml, understand the libraries and tools we use in our daily work, and apply their learnings to build a computer game. Participants will also learn the fundamentals of electronic trading systems and write a program that trades on a simulated stock exchange.
Strategy and product — attendees will get a glimpse into the work that goes on in our Strategy and Product department. Case studies and problem-solving exercises will introduce participants to how we optimize funding and financing, set up new trading flows, respond to regulatory inquiries, and generally manage the complex mechanics that underlie Jane Street’s business.
Don’t have a background in finance? No worries — many Jane Street employees don’t come from a financial background. If you’re curious about our work and want to learn more about what a career in finance could look like, we encourage you to apply!
